The Data Innovation Lab will partner with internal teams, customers and third parties, such as start-ups and academics, on new data-driven innovations.

We are currently seeking a passionate Scientist as one of the founding members of the Thomson Reuters Data Innovation Lab. We are looking for an individual with a proven record of building data-driven insights to address complex business problems. In this role, you will have significant and direct impact on our company.

This position requires domain expertise in areas such as machine learning, data mining, natural language processing, statistical or probabilistic modeling and data visualization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize new research ideas, build prototypes and proofs of concepts in collaboration with other data scientists
  • Identify and develop data driven insights to demonstrate the art of the possible when combining proprietary data sources and external sources of data with an emphasis on text format
  • Conceive, develop, and test algorithms with tools like R, Python, etc
  • Collaborate with other groups to develop customer ready prototypes and new types of insights
  • Attend local meet ups to learn about the latest Big Data and Analytics developments and meet early adopters and like minded domain experts
  • Subscribe to the user/developer lists to stay up to date and provide input

 
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or PhD in relevant technical field, such as computer science, natural language processing, applied mathematics or a related discipline
  • Experience producing and rapidly delivering minimum viable product
  • 2+ years of industry experience in text mining and analytics
  • Experience programming in an object oriented language (Scala, Java, C#, etc)
  • Experience working with scripting languages like Python, familiarity with web frameworks a plus
  • Experience implementing supervised and unsupervised learning machine learning techniques, classification, clustering and collaborative filtering
  • Work experience with one or more of the following:
    • Big data analytics (Hadoop, Hive, NoSQL, Spark, Shark, Hive, Mahout, Impala, Solr, HBase, Pig, Cascading)
    • Information extraction, data mining, or machine learning

     
  • Comfortable in a fast paced environment and motivated by complex technical and business challenges
  • Ability to track down complex data integration issues, evaluate different algorithmic approaches, and analyze data to solve problems
  • Results driven with the ability to prioritize and focus on ideas and features that will have significant, measurable impact as defined by your interaction with stakeholders inside and outside the company
  • Ability to set and meet project objectives & milestones
  • Experience with one or more Thomson Reuters customer vertical preferred
