Description:
We are seeking a highly capable Data Scientist who is passionate about data analysis and modeling, and is driven to make Skype and Lync have the best audio and video communication experience possible. The Skype Real-Time Media group applies core expertise in audio and video signal processing to problems in advanced telecommunication scenarios that are used by hundreds of millions of customers worldwide. This position is in the Call Quality team within the Real-Time Media group which is responsible for analyzing call quality for Skype and Lync and driving improvements into the product. Skype and Lync have a vast amount of call data and conduct some of the largest user studies in the world. Primary responsibilities:
  • Perform exploratory call quality data analysis and build predictive models that fit subjective call quality metrics
  • Perform exploratory call reliability analysis and build reliability models that fit objective data
  • Develop fundamental metrics and tools for measuring call quality and reliability and validate these metrics/tools
  • Determine key factors that will improve call quality, help the development team prototype them, and help drive these into the product
  • Drive AB tests and design of experiments to facilitate testing new audio/video processing to improve quality
  • Effectively collaborate within Skype and other related Microsoft divisions to drive call quality initiatives

 
Qualifications:
  • MS or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field
  • Deep experience in data mining, machine learning, statistics, and signal processing (optional)
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in data mining and machine learning and with track record of leading a team of scientists.
  • Experience with tools such as Python, R, Matlab, SQL.
