Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Data Intelligence, the Director of Advanced Analytics is a full time position located in San Diego, CA. The role of the position is to direct and lead the development of game changing analytical and statistical solutions that enhance business knowledge as well as the development and deployment of a suite models and algorithms into enterprise systems and applications to enhance business processes.

This individual manages a team of Data Scientists and Statistical Analysts and is responsible and leading the following:
  • Advanced analytic engagements to answer strategic questions
  • Building, deploying, and maintaining models and algorithms including definitions for data preparation and database file/table creation
  • Driving novel application of advanced quantitative methods to solve challenging business problems
  • Directing the strategy and vision for using advanced Analytic for competitive advantage and innovation

 
The role requires extensive knowledge of data mining processes and can build models that can be integrated into processes across departments, the business at large and within stand alone applications. The Director of Advanced Analytic is expected to handle advanced analytic projects, data mining and modeling processes from start to finish and provide leadership to others working in the same realm. The Director of Advanced Analytic is responsible to directly influence the organization's leaders and impact decision making through insight derived from analytics.

Essential Job Duties:

Strategy & Planning:
  • Provide leadership and direction in the use of advanced analytic as a component of the enterprise strategy
  • Responsible for building strong consulting analytic capabilities within the company as well as leading complex analytic projects from stakeholders interviews, project definition to presenting findings to management.
  • Build relationship and trust with key stakeholders to maximize the impact of Analytics in the various organizations Data Intelligence serves.
  • Devise, develop, and deploy with the team required advanced statistical analyses in response to business users or executive management needs.
  • Direct and lead the development of models and algorithms in support of various analyses and business needs.
  • Develop and implement internal processes to ensure timely response to requests
  • Direct and lead the creation of data mining architectures, coding standards, replicable statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies.
  • In conjunction with data owners and department managers, develop data models and protocols for mining production databases.
  • Assist in the development of data management policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement scalable data mining systems.
  • Provide access to training and development to staff and costumers.
  • Manage staff performance and staff lifecycle create Best in Class practices for hiring and retaining top talent.
  • Support the VP of Data Intelligence and the Team in carrying out the department strategic plan.

 
Acquisition & Deployment:
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on data mining products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

 
Operational Management:
  • Direct and lead the development of statistical models to predict, quantify and forecast different business metrics.
  • Supervise and lead the development of analytic and statistical solutions to provide insight and improve business processes.
  • Work with application development staff to coordinate the creation and management of a suite of predictive models within applications.
  • Collaborate with unit leadership, end users, development staff, and other stakeholders to integrate data mining applications with existing systems, including data warehouse.
  • Provide leadership to develop and implement quality assurance best practices for data mining/analysis services across the organization.
  • Supervise and lead the development, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of change control and testing processes for modifications to data models.
  • Create data definitions for new database file/table development and/or changes to existing ones.
  • Determine required network components to ensure data access, as well as data consistency and integrity.
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain routines for end users to facilitate best practices use of data mining tools.
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain a Best In Class analytic process.
  • Collaborate with database and disaster recovery administrators to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  • Monitor data mining system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Respond to and resolve data mining performance issues.
  • Lead and provide guidance to junior members of the team.

 
Minimum Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience
  • Strong understanding of data mining models, structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading data mining software packages such as R, Python, Matlab/Octave or SAS with large and complex data sets.
  • Strong familiarity with data preparation, processing, classification, and forecasting.
  • Working technical experience with relational database servers, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and MySQL.
  • Outstanding SQL programming skills with excellent extract-creation skills.
  • Experience working with large data sets within distributed computing environments (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.).
  • Direct experience with data management techniques.
  • Project management experience.
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Analytic consulting experience

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree is required
