Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Business Intelligence the Director of Data Warehousing is a full- time position located in San Diego, CA. The role of the position is to lead the Business Intelligence department, enabling and supporting the enterprise information and knowledge delivery systems and set the BI roadmap in support of the strategic direction of the organization.

This individual is also responsible for leading a team that will work in conjunction with our application development teams to integrate BI capabilities within our applications. The role requires the ability to balance short-term versus long-term actions, strategic versus tactical requirements, while continuing to move forward towards a strategic vision. Additional areas include leading technical discussions, code reviews, solution documentation, team mentoring, and defining overall best practice as related to business intelligence complex projects with cross functional teams.

Essential Job Duties:

Operational Job Duties:
  • Ensure the timely and accurate execution and delivery of projects
  • Oversee multiple large complex projects with cross functional teams and stakeholders
  • Assess and adjusting product development workflow and processes to make them as efficient as possible and ensure on time delivery of products
  • Ensure the delivery of reliable information that is trusted by the stakeholders
  • Ensure the appropriate / secure access to information
  • Responsibility for identifying BI project costing, technical gaps, communications, and risk mitigation
  • Oversee the creation of documentation for the program or project and other technical deliverables
  • Oversee the implementation, deployment and support of Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse within our application stack

 
Strategic Job Duties:
  • Manage the business intelligence strategic direction
  • Provide expert understanding of the business intelligence and architectural principles of data warehousing
  • Create a robust, scalable, sustainable architecture that supports requirements and provides for expansion given budgetary constraints and availability of data and skilled resources
  • Recommend and enforcing data and technical solutions and standards
  • Responsible for the development of a comprehensive reporting and analytics environment
  • Evaluate and recommend opportunities in the area of strategic direction; identify, evaluate and present new business/technical opportunities to senior management
  • Stay abreast of innovation in the fields of BI, Data Warehouse, Data Analytics and information/knowledge delivery.

 
Management Job Duties:
  • Maintain the appropriate level of staff to accomplish organization goals and objectives.
  • Lead teams of 5-10 BI staff in day-to-day development and operations
  • Define and estimating project proposals and creates technical project plans and staffing models
  • Stay current in new technologies as well as new opportunities to develop knowledge and staff

 
Technology Job Duties:
  • Works closely with BTS and IT departments resources to identify, evaluate, recommend, select and deploy software and hardware solutions for new and existing BI and Data systems which support the business plans and improve efficiency and performance. e Ability to transform business strategy to a technology solution utilizing BI tools
  • Managing business intelligence technologies providing powerful yet intuitive information/knowledge delivery services.
  • Deliver the tools used to convert data into business information and measures across a wide range of delivery methods (reports, dashboards, ad hoc, mobile, etc.)
  • Manage complex technical solutions and design utilizing Microsoft BI tools and/or other BI products such as but not limited to Tableau
  • Lead technical discussions impacting solutions and business intelligence technology
  • Evaluate current/future of various data warehousing tools and components
  • Stay current in new business intelligence technologies, as well as new opportunities to develop team knowledge base
  • Assess and Ensuring readiness of technical solutions and hardware including systems, tools, technologies, and processes

 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of data mining models, structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading data mining software packages such as SAS or R with large and complex data sets.
  • Strong familiarity with data preparation, processing, classification, and forecasting.
  • Working technical experience with relational database servers, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and MySQL.
  • Outstanding SAS language, macro language and SQL programming skills with excellent extract-creation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of data modeling tools such as ERWin.
  • Direct experience with data management techniques.
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Good understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Possess superior communications skills with all levels of senior management (verbal and written)
  • Possess superior people management, leadership, project management, decision-making and technical design skills
  • Possess superior conceptual and analytical skills including: problem solving, operating platforms, and solutions designs
  • At least 8+ years in a direct role supporting and implementing business intelligence and/or enterprise data warehouse
  • Advanced understanding of OLAP, SQL, SSIS tools

 
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree is required
